Dear Member
The global COVID – 19 has forced us to adjust to a different way of life. In the next coming few days, we will be sharing some of the experiences from the profession on how they are coping during this difficult time.
Please see below some of the messages received from the profession. We have hidden the identity for obvious reasons.
“In light of the tragic circumstances the world has found itself in, I am very happy to share my experiences as a lab owner and employer and what this time has allowed me to endure.
I own and run a productive and efficient denture lab in a remote area in the………….
The news of having to lockdown was initially devastating. Once lockdown began my thoughts were extremely negative and soul crushing.
The initial period was worrisome, and sleeplessness was commonplace.
As a Christian, I had to dig deep faithfully to understand and make sense of the insanity we found ourselves experiencing.
But Godly wisdom soon overtook the fear that was brewing in the depths of my mind.
Once the South African government started to announce financial aid packages, I took the initiative and subscribed to the offers.
Later, UIF announced assistance for employees which I also took advantage of.
I (as an employer), have been the recipient of funding from the mentioned schemes and UIF in the form of hard cash. This was a direct answer to prayer and has assisted greatly in allowing my staff to be remunerated while on lockdown and my essential bills to be paid.
Negotiations with my landlord and basic financial decisions regarding retirement planning has allowed me to remain relatively debt free and to remain relatively stable and ready to operate once lockdown is over.
My experiences during lockdown, have taught me that change, although painful, is sometimes essential for a new path to be forged.
My wish is for this profession, (dental technology), to evolve and arise stronger than prior to lockdown.
A time for new ideas, new attitudes and chance to revive a great and noble profession...”
I hope that this will encourage the profession to make some bold moves in bringing about the much-needed change to you and your employees.
